Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stone for a ₹10,601 crore Ammonia–Urea Fertilizer Plant at Namrup in Assam’s Dibrugarh district. The project is being developed by Assam Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited and will be established within the existing unit of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation.

Once operational, the plant is expected to have an annual urea production capacity of 1.27 million metric tons and is projected to be functional by 2030. This initiative will significantly strengthen India’s fertilizer security and reduce dependence on imports.

The project is set to create thousands of employment opportunities in Assam and across the northeastern region. In addition to direct jobs, it will boost allied sectors such as logistics, maintenance, and supply chain services, creating a broader economic impact.

Strategically located, the plant will play a crucial role in ensuring timely availability of fertilizers to farmers in Assam, the northeastern states, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. By supporting regional agriculture, it will contribute to higher crop productivity and rural prosperity.

Beyond agriculture, this project marks a major step toward industrial development in the northeast, promoting economic growth and regional empowerment. By combining modern technology with sustainable practices, the plant is expected to become a benchmark for industrial and agricultural collaboration in India, driving progress for both local communities and the nation.
